Kota Sayama
Is a jazz pianist who was born and live in Tokyo.His blood type is B, and zodiac sign is Pisces.
He studied Jazz/Popular music theory at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
He turned back Japan and started his professional career in 2004 as an accompanist of Takamasa Segi, a zampona and quena artist,and as a member of the band “Solid Nexus” which formed by a very unique and identical guitarist Taiga Motoyoshi.Solid Nexus has released an album “Asymmetry Design” in 2005 and it is the first published recording of Sayama.
In 2010,Sayama released his own album “Ryushutsu (which means “spillage” in Japanese)” from Miminoko Pro label.This album reflects his interest in music such as folk music and free jazz that do not fit into popular music theory and systems, he explores the requirements for the formation of music in this album.
Around 2014, Sayama joined another band “element of the moment” an instrumental band in Okinawa, formed by the drummer/composer Akira Nakamura.And released 3albums so far, include a collaboration work with singer songwriter TATETAKAKO.
In the other side, Sayama also has a reputation as a singer’s partner.He works for many accomplished singers as Saori Yuki, CIRCUS, May J. , Kenta Maeno and legendary Okinawan jazz singer Sumiko Yoseyama.He is highly regarded from them for his comprehension of songs and his skill and sensibility in applying jazz idioms and approaches to pop music without feeling out of place.
Furthermore,Sayama has strong relations and connections to theater and musicals.He joined and worked with directors/writers as Kuro Tanino, Eri Watanabe , Satoshi Suzuki, Hideto Iwai, Suzuki Matsuo and their works.
Since 2019, he has been in charge of musical director and composer for the theater company “Rappa-ya” hosted by Satoshi Suzuki.Thus,Sayama is developing and expanding his career as a composer in recent years.
On July1,2023,Sayama's solo recording album "KOTA'S STEW" was released from SHINYU label. It is a work that you can enjoy Sayama's unique and aesthetic sense that is easy to listen to, unique, and playful.
